Autobiography
I guess I would have to consider myself
a digital immigrant. True on occasion I do listen to television or to music when I am working on the computer, but I tend
to get distracted. I tend to get caught up in my favorite television shows or my favorite music.
When I was growing up my parents did not allow very much technology to enter the house.we did
not have a television until I reached my teens. My mother wanted us to learn that reading and crafts as well as outdoor sports
and good sportsmanship was very important. When I am doing a project I tend to start with reading materials in the library
instead of starting with the Internet. (pages 1-2 ) The first thing that comes to mind is to get out those wonderful encyclopedias
and start going through them to find my information. Even as I am writing this I catch myself thinking to myself that I am
going to have to proof read this with my Webster's dictionary. I know as you read this you are thinking to
yourself that I am either some backwoods hick or some elderly woman who has never been exposed to very much technology;
surprise, I am only twenty and have lived in a variety of different places. My mother is actually quite proficient with the
computer and uses one for work, even though she still writes everything out on paper first.
Technology is wonderful, but it should not replace basic skills. I am quite capable of using technology even
though I was not as exposed as some others have been.
